How Training works with HR, Payroll and Flow

What Training receives and sends, what to do with records it cannot use, and tasks from Flow.

Updated 31 October 2026

What Training receives

  • From HR: people, their employments and roles (with each role's manager), and when someone is unavailable: the times only, never why.
  • From HR: goals that need learning, which learners can choose when they ask for learning.
  • From Payroll: the wage cost of paid training time.

Records from HR are read-only in Training: change them in HR.

What Training sends

  • To HR and Payroll: readiness for each role and requirement.
  • To Payroll: approved training time, for the role it was for.
  • To HR: how each learning request is getting on.

Never a rate, and never a booking or a completion as paid time.

The HR and Payroll page

Training administrators and leads see HR and Payroll. When Training is connected to Core, records travel through Core's relay by themselves: the page shows Connected to Core, when records were last collected and sent, and Collect and send now.

When it runs on its own, it shows Standalone: records travel as files. Choose a file, then Check the file and Take it in. Readiness for HR, Readiness for Payroll, Training time for Payroll and Learning requests for HR download what Training sends. Add a learner (standalone) on Learners is for this case only: when HR is connected, learners arrive from HR by themselves.

Records that need a decision

Records Training cannot match, or that conflict with what it holds, wait under Waiting for a decision. Home says when there are any. Choose Try them again once the cause is fixed, or Dismiss.

Tasks from Flow

Some Flow processes, such as onboarding a new starter, include a step for Training. Training administrators and leads see them on Home under Tasks from Flow. Choose Accept, then Done with an optional outcome, or Decline with a reason. The answer goes back to the process.
