Some items are for hire: anyone allowed can take them out without asking a site operator. Nothing is charged.
Find the item
Scan its label and choose Hire this, or choose Hire in the menu (or Hire something on Home). The list can be narrowed by:
- Search: a tag, a name, or the training it needs;
- Category and Place;
- Can I have it?: Available to hire now, You can ask for it, Out on loan or hire or Out of use.
Each card says whether you can have it, and if not, why. An item marked needs with a training name needs that training.
Hire it now
- Open the item. Under Hire it now, set Due back. The form shows the most days you can have it.
- Look at the item, and tick I have looked at it and it is fit to use. If it is not fit to use, do not hire it: report it.
- Choose Hire it. It is yours until the time you set, and it shows under With you on Home.
If you see Ask to hire it instead, the item needs training that Training has nothing on record for you here. Choosing it sends your hire to an asset administrator, who checks your training and approves or refuses it. The bell tells you which. Until then it shows as waiting for approval on Home, and you can Withdraw it.
Book it for later
Under Book it for later, set From and Until and choose Book it. You can book up to a year ahead, for no longer than the item's longest hire. Booked, beside the form, shows when it is already booked.
- Bookings never overlap. A hire that would run into someone else's booking is refused: bring it back before their booking starts.
- If the item is out, book it from when it is due back.
- When your booking comes round, hire the item as usual. Your booking is used for the hire.
Why you might not be able to hire it
- It is not for hire, or only a higher access level may hire it.
- Your training for it is not current. Training can book you a place.
- It cannot be used at the moment, for example because it is being repaired.
- Someone else has it. Only one person can have an item at a time.
