Scan a label

Find out what an item or a place is from its QR label, and what you can do with it.

Updated 31 October 2026

Every item and place has a QR label. Scanning it tells you what it is and offers what you may do with it. What you see depends on who you are: the label itself grants nothing.

With your phone's camera

The label holds the address of Core's scan page. Point your phone's camera app at it and open the link. After you sign in, the page shows the item or place, with buttons from Asset Management and, where they run, from Service Desk and Facilities: for example Report a fault. See Scan a label to report a fault.

In Asset Management

  1. Choose Scan a label, from the menu or on Home.
  2. Do one of these:
    • choose Use the camera and point it at the label (this button appears only in browsers that can read QR codes);
    • under Or a photo of the label, take or choose a photo of it;
    • under Or type the code, or what it is, type the code printed under the QR code, such as CO-TR1, or a word such as projector, then choose from the list or choose Look up.
  3. The result shows the item's Status and Where it is, or the place's Kind and Where it is.

If there is nothing for you to do, the scan says so: ask the site operator.

A label that no longer works

When an item gets a new label, or is disposed of, its old label stops working at once. Scanning it says the label was retired, or that the item has been disposed of. Use the label on the item.
