Cash position, X reads and cash movements

See what should be in the box, take an X read, and record pay-ins, pay-outs and bank drops.

Updated 31 October 2026

Cash position (X read) shows the open session: the cash expected in the box, the net takings, the cash and card split, and the X reads taken.

Where the money is

The session's card adds up cash sales and pay-ins, takes away cash refunds, void reversals, pay-outs and bank drops, and ends with Expected in box.

Under it, the till checks that the cash on the receipts matches the cash movements recorded at the box. If they do not match, it says so, and the Z read is blocked until the difference is corrected.

Take an X read

An X read is a snapshot of the session. It resets nothing, and you can take as many as you like, for example at a shift handover.

  1. Under Take an X read, type the Reason for this X read.
  2. Choose the Take X read button. It shows the next number, such as X-0003.

X reads are numbered in order within the session and cannot be changed afterwards. X read history for this session lists them; Report opens one to print.

Cash movements

Under Cash movements:

  • Pay in: cash going into the box that is not a sale, such as cash returned by a colleague. Type the Amount and a Reference, then choose Record pay-in.
  • Pay out: cash taken out for an expense. Type the Amount and the Receipt / voucher reference, choose a Reason code, write the explanation and have a supervisor approve. Then choose Authorise and pay out.
  • Bank drop: a sealed bag taken out of the box for banking. Type the Amount being removed and the Sealed bag reference (required), choose a reason, write the explanation and have a supervisor approve. Then choose Record bank drop.

Every movement is listed with who recorded it and who approved it.
