Exceptions: what stops a run

What each kind of exception means, who fixes it, and how an approver records a review.

Updated 31 October 2026

Calculating a run checks its inputs. Each problem is listed under Exceptions with the person it concerns and an Owner: HR, Payroll or Training, the applet where it is fixed.

The three kinds

KindWhat it does

What blocks a run

  • No pay agreement covers the role on that date, or two do.
  • Time falls outside the role's dates or outside the employment.
  • The role is salaried: salaried pay is not calculated.
  • Two pieces of time overlap for one person, including training attendance.
  • Time is entered during absence HR has approved.

What needs a review

  • Paid holiday, sick pay or family leave pay from HR: these are not calculated here, so they are paid outside the run.
  • Readiness from Training is expired or missing for a role that was worked. The hours stay paid.
  • The person's payroll setup is not marked complete.

What is to note

  • Time that is not approved yet, which this run does not pay.
  • An allowance or deduction waiting for approval, which is not included.
  • A requirement met by an override in Training rather than a credential.

Record a review

An approver who did not prepare the run chooses Record a review, writes what they checked and decided, and chooses Record. Reviews are recorded while the run is calculated or reviewed, and stay with the run. Every exception that needs one must be reviewed before the run is approved.
