Help · Explainable pay

Payroll

Gross pay for people with more than one role, line by line: each hour at the rate its own role had on that date, runs approved by a second person, and corrections that never rewrite what was paid.

Questions and answers

Does Payroll pay anyone or calculate tax?

No. Payroll is a demonstration. It calculates gross pay from approved time and agreed rates; deductions and net pay are simulated. No tax, National Insurance, pension or statutory pay is calculated, and nothing is paid or filed. Do not use it for real pay or tax decisions.

Why can't I approve this run or this time?

Nobody approves their own time, time they entered (unless an administrator allows it), an allowance or deduction they added, or a run they prepared. Whoever last calculated a run is its preparer. Approving runs, allowances and deductions also needs the Payroll Approver or Payroll Administrator access level. See Who may approve what.

Why is My payslips empty?

Either HR has not linked your sign-in to your record yet, or no run that pays you has been finalised. Ask HR to link your account. Payslips appear once the week's run is finalised.

Can Payroll pay a salary, holiday pay or sick pay?

Not yet. This demonstration pays hourly roles only. A salaried role stops the run, and paid holiday, sick pay or family leave from HR is flagged for review and paid outside the run.

Can I download a payslip as a PDF, or see year-to-date figures?

Not yet. Use Print on the payslip. Year-to-date figures need tax-year rules that this demonstration does not have.

Is the data in the sandbox real?

No. The sandbox's people, rates, time and payslips are fictional, and they are reset every night. Try anything you like.
