Schedule, pause, archive or disable a code

Control when a dynamic code works, and what people see when it does not.

Updated 31 October 2026

What someone scanning it gets

StateWhat happens
DraftA page saying the code is not recognised: the address does not work until it is published
ActiveThey go to the destination
Not started yetThe alternative link if there is one, otherwise a page saying it is not active yet
Schedule endedThe alternative link if there is one, otherwise a page saying it has ended
PausedA page saying it is paused
ArchivedA page saying it is no longer in use
Disabled permanentlyA page saying it has been withdrawn

These pages never say where the code would have gone.

Schedule

Under Schedule on the code's page:

  1. Choose the time zone in Times are in.
  2. Set Starts, Ends or both. The code works from the start time, up to but not including the end time.
  3. Optionally, add an Alternative link outside those times.
  4. Choose Save the schedule.

When the clocks go back, a time happens twice: say which you mean in If that time happens twice. A time inside the hour skipped when the clocks go forward cannot be used.

Pause and resume

Under Lifecycle, Pause stops the code at once and Resume starts it again. Resuming never overrides a schedule that has ended: change the schedule for that.

Archive

Archive stops every printed copy working and hides the code from the normal list. Restore from the archive makes it work again, unless it is paused or outside its schedule. Archiving a static code only hides it: printed copies keep working.

Disable permanently

Administrators can choose Disable permanently. It stops every printed copy for ever, and the address is never given to another code. To confirm, type the code's identifier (for a static code, DISABLE), then choose Disable permanently. The history and audit trail are kept.
