Ask for learning

Ask for a course for one of your roles, perhaps towards a goal from HR, and follow it through.

Updated 31 October 2026

A learning request asks for a course rather than a particular session. Once approved, Training finds the session for you.

Ask

  1. On Home, under Your learning requests, choose Ask for learning.
  2. In Course, type a few letters and choose from the list.
  3. Choose For which role.
  4. If HR has set you a goal that needs learning, choose it in Towards a goal from HR (optional).
  5. Say Why, and choose Ask.

You can have one request under way for each course.

What happens next

  1. The role's manager decides. A deputy, or someone the manager has delegated to in HR, can decide too.
  2. A course with a price also needs the budget holder, against the training budget for the role's cost centre that year.
  3. Approved, it books you onto the earliest open session of the course you are free for. If those sessions are full, you join the waiting list of the earliest one and are booked when a place comes free.
  4. When you complete the course, the request is completed.

If no session of the course is open yet, the request stays approved without a place.

HR's goal shows how far the request has got.
