Make a task wait for a Flow run

Mark a task as waiting for a Flow run, or one of its steps, and be told when it can start.

Updated 31 October 2026

Sometimes a task cannot start until a process in Flow is done: a new starter's accounts set up, for example. You can record that on the task.

Add a wait

  1. Open the task.
  2. Under Waits for Flow, choose Wait for a run.
  3. Type the run's name and choose it. The runs offered are those linked to the task's project, or to a node above it.
  4. To wait for one step instead of the whole run, type the step's name. Leave it empty to wait for the whole run.
  5. Choose Add.

No runs offered? Launch one from the project's Flows tab first: see Run a Flow process for a project.

What happens

StateMeaning
waitingThe run or step has not finished
finishedIt has finished, so the task can start
run cancelledThe run was cancelled: decide what the task waits for now

When the state changes, the task's Activity records it, and the person it is assigned to and the person who added it are told.

The cross beside a wait (Stop waiting) removes it.
