Scan a QR label

See what an item or a room is from its QR label, and what you can do with it.

Updated 31 October 2026

Items and rooms carry a QR label from Asset Management. The label holds the address of Core's scan page.

Scan it

  1. Point your phone's camera app at the label, or use Scan a label in Service Desk. See Scan a label to report a fault.
  2. Sign in if you are asked. You come back to the scan page.
  3. The page names the item or room, and says which Asset Management it is from, Live or Sandbox.

What it shows

For an item: its Status, Where it is, and, when it is out, With whom and when it is Due back. It also says if it is with you, or if your hire is waiting for approval.

For a room or place: its Kind, Where it is, and the Items here.

What you can do

Only the actions your access allows are offered. For example:

  • Hire this, Book it for later or Return it, in Asset Management;
  • Details and history, or Issue, take back or move, for people who look after the items;
  • What is here or Count what is here, for a room;
  • Report a fault, in Service Desk;
  • Log a job, in Facilities.

When it does not work

  • This label is not one you can look up: none of the applications you can open knows the code. It may belong to another organisation, or have been typed wrongly. If you cannot open Asset Management at all, the page says so and links to your account page to ask.
  • Retired label: the label is no longer in use, and the page says why.
