A consideration is a question the board has not yet answered. It is published with its realistic options, so the board can shape the decision rather than approve a finished one.
Add the question
On the project's Considerations, choose + Add and fill in:
- The question.
- Status: it must begin with Open or Decided, for example Open — with Finance or Decided — see D-018.
- Needed by: the health check flags an open question once this date passes.
- Owner, and Impact if we get it wrong.
- The situation (at least 60 characters) and the Recommendation on the table (at least 40).
Add its options
- In the list of considerations, choose Options.
- Choose + Add option.
- Fill in Option, What we gain, What we give up and Cost. Cost need not be money: Neutral or 6 weeks longer are fine.
- Set the Verdict: SELECTED (what we are doing), RECOMMENDED (our advice), Rejected, Fallback option, or Held for a later lot.
- Choose Add option.
An option cannot be saved without What we give up: an option with no downside tells the board the analysis is thin.
Exactly one option should be SELECTED or RECOMMENDED. If none is, or more than one, the options page says so and the health check flags it.
Edit the question on the options page goes back to the question itself.
Once it is decided
Change its Status to begin with Decided, and record the decision under Decisions, with the question's reference in Relates to. On the board it moves from Open to Decided on On the Table.
