Payments can only be taken inside a cash session. Opening one records who is accountable, the change float issued and the time. Only one session can be open at the station.
- On Till, choose Open a cash session, or Open session in the bar.
- Choose the Float mode:
- Change float issued (held outside the lock box): you keep a counted float to give change from. It never goes into the box.
- Exact tender only: no change given: customers paying cash pay the exact amount.
- Check the Opening float value. It starts at the default an administrator sets.
- If the approval matrix asks for it (it does unless an administrator has changed it), a supervisor approves. See Supervisor authorisation.
- Choose Open session.
The session gets a reference such as S-2026-0012. The next receipt number carries on the station's unbroken sequence.
