How pay is worked out, and what is not calculated

Gross pay from approved time and dated rates; what is simulated, and what this demonstration leaves out.

Updated 31 October 2026

Gross pay

  • Pay comes from approved time only. Time waiting for approval is not paid.
  • Each piece of time is split by date and paid at the rate HR agreed for that role on that date. Someone who drives in the morning and trains in the afternoon is paid each at its own rate.
  • Each line is rounded half up to the penny.
  • Training attendance approved in Training is paid as time, at the rate of the role it was for.
  • An approved allowance adds to gross pay.

Deductions and net pay

Deductions are fixed demonstration amounts with a reason, approved by a second person. Net (simulated) is gross pay less those deductions. Every screen and export marks them as simulated.

What a run covers

  • Weekly periods, paid on the Friday after each week ends.
  • One legal employer per run.
  • One currency, pounds sterling.
  • Hourly rates only.

What is not calculated

Tax, National Insurance, pensions, statutory sick, holiday and family pay, salaried pay, overtime and premiums are not calculated, and nothing is paid or filed. A salaried role, or paid holiday, sickness or family leave from HR, appears on the run as an exception instead of being paid. See Exceptions: what stops a run.

Year-to-date figures and PDF payslips are not available yet.
