Make a dynamic code and publish it

Create a draft, classify it, and publish it so its address starts working.

Updated 31 October 2026

Create the draft

  1. On Codes, choose New code, then Dynamic link. It is marked Recommended.
  2. Give it a Name for finding it again, such as Spring open day poster. People who scan it never see the name.
  3. In Where it leads, paste the address of a web page that already exists. It must start with https:// (or http://), and anyone must be able to open it without signing in. It cannot contain a user name or password, or be the address of another code.
  4. Choose values under Classification. They are optional for a draft, but the required ones are needed before you publish.
  5. Add a Description if you like, then choose Create the draft.

The draft has its own address straight away, shown under Its address, but the address does not work until the code is published.

Publish it

Choose Publish at the top of the code's page. The destination is checked and the image is scanned automatically first; if anything is missing, such as a required classification, the page says what. Once published, the code is Active: anyone scanning it goes to its destination.

The address in the code never changes, whatever else you change. To send it somewhere else after printing, see Change where a code leads.

Duplicate makes a copy with a new address, named "Copy of" the original. A copy of a dynamic code starts as a draft, with no visits and a fresh history; a copy of a static code works straight away.
